I love reading about faeries and woodland creatures along with magic. It is always a fun read filled with plenty of adventure. You follow Serena who is intrigued about the dead forest that is forbidden after the very sad outcome that happened so long ago. But of course Serena seems to have a destiny and you get to follow Serena and her best friend through this journey. But the ending has you wondering is there a book two? Because we all know evil just doesn't go away. This is a short book to read and will have you turning the pages to find out what happens to Serena and her journey to save her village.Product details

The beginning of this story and the description of the wood sprites reminded me a lot of Tinkerbell and the Disney fairies. The wood sprites are getting ready to change the seasons. They use human items like paperclips and thimbles in their house which kind of reminded me of the Borrowers. Serena is really adventurous and ventures to the forbidden area of the forest. A sorceress tells Serena that she has to break the witch's curse and save everybody. This is a very fast paced little adventure story. I was enjoying the little quest that the sprites go on to defeat the witch. There are a lot of archetypal things going on but I thought it was entertaining and interesting.
Lachelle Redd’s The Woodsprite’s Tale is a short dark fairytale, set in a complex world with plenty of depth and history. Intricate details weave world and history together and create a fine list of characters, though I could have wished some names weren’t so similar to each other (Hailey and Harley for example). Some odd word choices, tense changes and potential logical flaws distracted me, but the story’s fun and the odd blend of epic language with everyday teen dialog might well attract younger readers. “What the h—l else were we going to do!” asks a protagonist when tackled for letting the teens have their own way. And a quest comes to fulfillment, not without cost, but with plenty of young woodsprite bravery.

I enjoyed this book, I read it from start to finish because I just had to know what would happen next. The story pulls you in and is easy to follow. I am now reading the follow up book to this one, The Evil Queen. Hopefully Serena gets her revenge but knowing what I do of the author I am sure there are some unexpected twists in this second book as well.

Great little book! One I think even my daughter would like to read. Now I know how the season's change...it's the Wood Sprites!!! I love magical creatures, so this book was one added to that love. I'm just wondering if there will be a second book.
Lachelle Redd has a flair for plot and atmosphere, but the writing lets down this dark fairy tale.
The book's strong points are the inventive characters, tension, and adventurous plot and these make The Wood Sprite's Tale a fun read. However, the book's weak points are the pacing and technical aspects of the writing. I think the story should have been longer with the character motivation and world more greatly fleshed out. The story progressed quite quickly from one turn to the next and I would have liked to spend more time with it. The writing problems could be solved with some careful editing.
I enjoyed this book. It was a bit jumpy. I felt like we didn't get to know Serena enough before she was sent off on a dangerous mission to save her village which left me unable to really connect or worry for her. There was a little back story sprinkled throughout the book but again not enough to make me see and feel for this village of wood sprites. I love the idea and I think the plot is great, I just think it needs a little more development to become great.
